Looked just like this. Couldn't take any pictures though because we were on our way to a work meeting and I didn't want to seem unprofessional.

I need one now. Most solid feeling car I've ever been in. There are a series of speedbumps at my work bad enough to knock fillings loose. The Merc ironed them right out and I barely even noticed they were there.

No wonder they're used as taxis. Comfortable solid cars.

How are they to own? This year is already taken care of, but it's never too early to start shopping for next year's winter car.

I loved how there was no wind or tire noise in the car. The engine kinda made up for that though because at 70mph its a diesel at 3500rpm. But that never really bothered me. Mine sat for a while before I owned it so after I attended to the important things I never had a problem while I DD'd it for a whole summer. Tiny things came up though while it sat without any activity when I was away at school. Its just a nice car to cruise around in. Its obviously slow but I never had a problem passing on the highway. If you want to drive one while its cold out you will definitely need an engine block heater.

The cars with the wheel covers are generally non-turbo 240 or 300Ds. The turbos had finned wheels. First sold in '81, if memory serves. Last year was '85 model year.

I had a 240D that same color "Manila Beige"...looks like that one has the same Palomino interior color as well. Still miss this slow thing.

Yeah just took a stock photo from Wikipedia, didn't actually notice what wheels were on the one I rode in.

240Ds available with a 4-speed manual (rare) 300D non-turbo bog slow - the turbo made a huge difference.

I've got a 1982 240D and it's been great for the 2-1/2 years I've owned it. I picked mine up for $1600 and it needed a little work(front end/exhaust), but you can get near immaculate ones for 4-5k. If you decide to look at any I made this handy guide .

Looks just like my old non turbo 300D. As long as the chassis is sorted and the horsehair hasnt fallen out of the seats those things cannot be beat for comfort
